Helicopter Accident at Ha-Katse

A helicopter of the Lesotho Defence Force carrying an executive member of the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), the pilot and three members of a German television crew were involved in an accident over Katse dam earlier this morning.
The three members of the TV crew had completed filming over Katse dam and were on their way to Mohale dam when the accident occurred. It is unclear what caused the helicopter to lose altitude and crash into the water. The film crewmembers survived and were taken to the Katse clinic where they were stabilized before being transferred to Bloemfontein and Bethlehem by air to receive further medical attention.
The pilot and the LHDA Executive member are still missing, but a search and rescue operation is on-going. Senior military personnel from the Lesotho Defence Force, officials from the LHDA and the Lesotho Highlands Water Commission have flown to Katse to assist with the operation.
The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority is doing everything possible to ensure the success of the rescue operation.
